Congrats to Revesby Workers

Posted by: FJ

Congratulations to the Revesby Workers for winning this years Masters Cup... The score does not reflect the nature of the game as it was won in the 2nd last over!!! Great game overall and the victory is a little payback to losing the Grand Final last year ironically to the same team, The Milperra Viking Berserkers!!! The pics are of both Grand Final Teams on the playing pitch before the game and the other is the Workers with the shield... Once again congrats to Revesby Workers and enjoy the spoils!!!

3RD Place Playoff Result

Posted by: FJ

The Mud Crabs have been running for 3 years now and this year we finished 3rd... The highest we've placed thus far!!! Awesome work fellas... We probably did have the tools to win the comp but finishing in the highest place we've ever had will suffice and build a platform for achieving better results in the coming seasons!!! Finishing 5th in the first year and following that up with a 4th placing last year and a 3rd placing this year could, if we follow the process we could be looking forward to a couple of Grand Finals coming our way in the next couple of seasons so lets keep the upward trend going... Righto the finer details to our last match of the year... The playoff for 3rd spot!!! 93-86 victors against the Marauders!!! Batting first this time given our record of bowling first is very patchy we notched up a reasonable total of 93 runs... Did leave a few runs out there but when it comes to Finals as they say it's "Runs on the Board" !!! Contributing to the scoreboard was Leon Jordan with his highest score for the Mud Crabs of 19 not out and with that being 1 run short of his first retirement... And speaking of retirements Jim Gardner retired with a sparkling 22 not out!!! We did well with the ball and restricted the Marauders to 86 with Leon Jordan also chipping in with his bowling figures of 1-5 and taking a catch along with it... Fine all round effort from LJ!!! That being our last game for the year I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with the Mud Crabs this season and I hope everyone enjoyed it and that we all come back next year to have another crack at it... Details for presentation day will come shortly so keep your eyes peeled to this platform!!!

There has been a time change for this weekends 3rd Place Play Off against the Milperra Viking Marauders... 1:45pm is the new time slot!!! The game is on a little earlier as to have the Grand Final start off on time this year at 3pm... So please turn up at 1:30 at the latest for a 1:45pm game time!!! Cheers!!!

Semi Final Result

Posted by: FJ

LOST... Not the result the Mud Crabs faithful were looking for!!! There was a lot more optimism around this year more so than last year for some reason but the result was still the same... This loss making it 3 years in a row that the Mud Crabs haven't reached the big game!!! So as the saying goes better luck next year... Hopefully that luck comes in droves as if we play the way we did on the weekend we are gunna need a ton of it!!! Down to the match report... Revesby Workers batted first and put up 136 runs!!! A great effort on their part and the motor was humming all the way thru the entire innings for the Workers with not a speed hump in sight... 137 to get for the Mud Crabs with an over asking rate hovering the 19/20 run mark!!! As the Workers engine hummed all the way thru their innings, the Mud Crabs innings never got started... In fact it needed roadside assistance!!! Spluttered all the way thru to end up with 101 for the final score... A resounding 35 run loss!!! We will have to pick up a tails and get ready for the 3rd place playoff this weekend, the curtain raiser for the Grand Final between Revesby Workers and Milperra Viking Berserkers!!! Lets end the year with a win!!!

Round 9 Results

Mud Crabs 109-Berserkers 101... A great win against the eventual Minor Premiers in the last regular season game of the year!!! Went down to the wire in the very last over of the game which is a great way for a 1 v 2 clash to end... Bowling first we restricted the Milperra Viking Berserkers to 101 with a consistent barrage of wickets early on in the innings doing the damage!!! Wickets picked up by Andrew Divan, Da vid Thode, Craig Holden and with his best figures of the season with 2-3, Jim Gardner... All 5 wickets picked up in a sharp 4 over spell with a little fightback from the opposition getting them past the 100 run barrier in the end!!! In response there was a little wobble at the beginning of the innings with 4 early wickets falling in the first few overs but that was quickly steadied by some big hitting middle order batting that lead to the Mud Crabs claiming the victory... Amongst the runs were Paul Collins with 24 not out and Craig Holden with 20 not out with a couple more charitable contributions from Tony Porter and Andrew Divan at the death with the latter running out Tony very nicely when the game was home and hosed!!! Not fine if the game was still on the line but fine when its not...Lol... Next week we have the Semi Finals and we play the Revesby Workers at 3pm!!! Good luck gentleman!!!

Mud Crabs 111- Marauders 59... A convincing win in our round 8 clash against the Milperra Viking Marauders!!! A win in this game consolidates our 2nd spot on the ladder and whatever happens in the last round it doesn't matter as second spot is now ours given the Berserkers are 4 points ahead of us and both Workers and Marauders are 6 points behind us in equal 3rd spot on the ladder!!! A second top 2 spot at the end of the regular season for 2 seasons in a row for the Mud Crabs... A very good effort considering we missed out on the semi finals altogether 3 seasons ago!!! Well done to all the boys and hopefully we can get past the semi final hurdle this year and make the big game!!! As for the match report for the last game against the Marauders we batted first and racked up a tidy score of 111... Given such a reasonable score its surprising only 2 batters retired... Craig Holden with 21 not out and Tony Porter with 35 not out coming back in at the end of the innings when everyone else got out!!! With the innings of 35 not out Tony crosses the 200 run mark for the Mud Crabs and becomes the 4th player to do so... The Marauders went into bat and struggled from ball one and never really got anything going and were all out for 59 in the last over!!! Wicket takers were Andrew Divan and Craig Holden with 1 a piece and Jimmy Gardner with his best figures ever going for 2-6... Next weeks game is at 2pm again but this time against the Berserkers!!! A top of the table clash with the result having no bearing on the ladder for the end of the season but it would be nice to get this one up as to have a bit of a psychological advantage come finals time... Good luck Lads!!!

Round 7 Results

Back into the win column... 113 to 86!!! Bowling first we bowled reasonably well to restrict Revesby Workers to 86 runs... Pick of the bowlers was Craig Holden returning figures of 2-3 and Jim Gardner going for 1-10!!! The batting is where it all happened... Always hard to bat when in wettish conditions with the ball skidding but we managed to do very well considering!!! A total of 3 retired batters... Grant Holden 30 not out, Jim Gardner 21 not out and Tony Porter 20 not out!!! With this win it consolidates our top 2 position on the ladder... With just 2 rounds left this win could go a long way to helping our chances of winning the comp this year!!! Lets build on the momentum lads!!!

Round 6 Results

Posted by: Kayden B

Top of the table clash against the Milperra Viking Berserkers didn't go our way... A 10 run loss with the score finishing up at 121-111!!! The game wasn't decided until the last over which was a perfect outcome for a top of the table clash but unfortunately the decision didn't go our way!!! With the bat both Craig Holden and Jimmy Gardner retired with 23 a piece... A useful contribution from David Thode with his highest score this season with 15 which included two huge 6's... One on either side of the wicket!!! On the bowling side of things Craig Holden, Jimmy Gardner and David Thode were among the wicket takers which rounded out a good game for this threesome!!! In the end it wasn't enough against the reigning premiers but nevertheless a good game of cricket especially given the atrocious weather conditions with the constant gale force winds!!! Next weeks game is against Revesby Workers so lets hope we rebound with a win!!!

NRL Jersey Day at Masters Cup

Posted by: FJ

Pictures from last weekends inaugural Masters Cup NRL Jersey Day... The concept of playing in our NRL Jerseys rather than the normal playing kit got off to a great start with most of the players donning their favourite teams jerseys!!! The concept was deemed a success and has been implemented as a permanent fixture into next seasons draw and beyond!!!

Round 5 Results

Posted by: FJ

The Mud Crabs are back into the win column after a two loss skid... Prevailing against the Milperra Viking Marauders by one run!!! 99-98!!! The batting was very scrappy but nevertheless just enough runs were on the scoreboard for us to get the W... Jimmy Gardner the only batter to retire with 21*!!! Defending a smallish total was always going to be hard work and it wasn't until David Thode's over that the wheel finally turned the Mud Crabs way... Dave's over of 0-7 with 5 dot balls was simply outstanding!!! Thus it proved to be the critical turning point of the game nevertheless the Marauders were still in with a chance needing 14 off the last over... Grant Holden once again took the death over bowling duties and aptly returned the figures of 1-12 and secured the win and the Mud Crabs now have the second top spot on the ladder!!! Next week is the top of the table clash against the Milperra Viking Berserkers... Lets start a winning streak Mud Crabs!!!

The council have closed the grounds for the weekend so unfortunately there will be no games played today... Today marks an unprecedented 5th washout for this season!!! With a better weather forecast for the upcoming week hopefully we can all get onto the park next weekend but before then I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and stay dry!!!

With the rain we had last night the grounds are currently closed... Pitch inspection photos show quite a few puddles of water mainly in the 3rd man and fine leg fielding areas!!! A few small patches of water also exist next to the cricket pitch... With inclement weather forecast for both Thursday and Friday we may find ourselves with an unprecedented 5th washout for the season!!! Let's hope not and keep an eye out for any updates to this Saturday's game against the Berserkers on this platform... Cheers!!!

Round 4 Results

Absolute carnage... It's the only way to describe the massacre that was our Round 4 game against Revesby Workers!!! 138 to 99... Lost by 39 runs!!! From the get go nothing went the Mud Crabs way... The batsmen from the Workers side had a field day...Their first 5 batters smashed us all over the park!!! Will have to dig deep into the record books but the first 5 batters all retired... Hitting 4's and 6's at will!!! Not that the bowlers bowled bad it was just the batters were on a different planet... The Mud Crabs just couldn't keep up!!! The only bright spot is that we sort of kept it close... Sort of!!! Lol!!! Paul Collins and Jimmy Gardner did retire on 21 and 22 respectively and apart from that there is nothing to report... Onto next week against the Berserkers gentleman!!!

3

Ground Inspection Pics...

Posted by: Kayden B

Pictures from the ground inspection on Saturday... Remarkably the grounds were still open but they were no way near fit to play!!! 7 weeks into this season and only 3 weeks of play possible... By far the wettest season in memory!!! Weather forecast is at this stage looking good so hopefully we can get amongst it this Saturday and get back into it!!!

Fellas all games have been called off for the day... The hopes of the forecasted rain skipping around us have been dashed!!! The rain we've had in the last hour and whats to come I wouldn't be surprised if the ground will be closed from Monday onwards for a few days but before that gentleman enjoy your weekends and stay dry!!!

Mud Crabs Highest Wicket Taker

Posted by: Kayden B

Round 3 has been and gone with not the result the Mud Crabs wanted by being beaten on the very last ball but the Most Wickets ever taken saga taking another turn... Craig Holden is back on top and this time its guaranteed for at least a week and not for 5 minutes like last time !!! He did it by taking just the one wicket against the Berserkers and not in the fashion that it is usually seized... Hit Wicket was the mode of dismissal !!! It was not a blood curling big toe crusher yorker to uproot middle stump or a perfectly flighted outswinger that cut outside the line of off stump with it collecting a neatly feathered edge of the bat and sailed seamlessly to the ever waiting perfect pouch of gloves of the wicketkeeper... No it was done by the batsmen falling backwards off balance and hitting the stumps!!! Nevertheless a wicket has been snared and Craig Holden is now officially the player with the most wickets ever taken for the Picnic Point Mud Crabs... For a least a week thou!!! We'll see what happens in next weeks Round 4 clash... Stay Tuned!!!

Round 3 Results

Posted by: FJ

Our winning start to the season has unfortunately come to an end and what a way it transpired... Off the very last ball !!! The Berserkers needing a four off the very last ball managed to hit a six and as a result end our unbeaten winning streak... Definitely a game that we let get away from us!!! 112 to 109 the final margin... Batting first getting 109 with retirements from both Craig Holden and skipper Paul Collins and a few tidy contributions from a couple of other players wasn't enough in the end with the Berserkers posting 112 with the aforementioned 6 off the last ball... Next weeks game against Revesby Workers will b the last game played before we break for the long weekend so hopefully we can get the W!!!

Mud Crabs Highest Wicket Taker

Posted by: Kayden B

At the beginning of this year the club had a log jam at the top of its wicket taking list... Grant Holden, David Thode, Craig Holden and Gus Aguilera all had taken the most wickets for the Mud Crabs!!! The 2024 season was a chance for one of these guys to break away from the field and claim the record for themselves... Craig Holden did just that!!! Craig got a wicket in last weekends Round 2 match, a regulation keeper catch, and then Craig sat alone on top of the Most Wickets List... But not for long!!! David Thode came on the very next over and bowled a batter out with his third delivery... So much for Craig sitting on top of the list as he sat there for all of 5 minutes!!! Not a day, not a week or a couple of weeks... But just 5 minutes!!! Now both Craig Holden and David Thode are tied for the most wickets all time for the Picnic Point Mud Crabs... That all can change in tomorrows Round 3 clash against the Berserkers!!! Match report for Round 3 will come out on Sunday... Let's find out what happens!!!

Round 2 Results

Posted by: FJ

2 from 2 gentlemen... 118-110 against the Milperra Viking Marauders!!! The rain held off long enough for us to get a win in against our arch nemesis... Batting first we got 118 which is the highest score of the season so far... Contributions made by Craig Holden 24*, Grant Holden 22* and back from a four year spell Craig Bowden with just missing out on retirement with 19*!!! A staggering 14 wides were bowled too which adds handsomely to the final score... Going out to defend 118 is still anyones game given the nature of Masters Cup but we prevailed in the very last over and that's how we have won both our first two games of the year!!! New Skipper Paul Collins once again the pick of the bowlers getting 2-7... 2 games as skipper and now has 4 wickets to his name so something different must definitely be in his water bottle and whatever it is hopefully he'll be a good sport and share it around!!! David Thode bowled well in the last over to get us home for the win... Next weeks clash will be against the other undefeated team in the competition the Berserkers!!! Let's go for 3 in a row lads!!!

Little flooding from the last Friday rains looks like it has all but disappeared... The pitch needs a good clean and the usual risk area down at the fine leg boundary area may need a little more time to soak in but considering the amount of rain we had we got away unscathed!!! If we have no significant inclement weather in between now and the end of the month we should be right to go for round 1!!!

2023 Season In Review

The 2023 Masters Cup saw the Picnic Point Mud Crabs secure the clubs maiden Minor Premiership... A great accomplishment considering the previous season we came last and therefore rightfully earned the Wooden Spoon!!! Unfortunately the Mud Crabs weren't able to carry on with the form of the regular season and lost both the semi final and third place playoff... But coming from last to first in the regular season proper is a step in the right direction and hopefully we can carry the momentum into the upcoming 2024 season!!! Teams statistics to follow...
